Te Rakau

Hola bloggers!

For the past few weeks, my class has been doing a Maori practice called Te Rakau, its a type of exercise Maori use to help them when catching weapons, they usually all gather the young warriors into a circle and play along to a tune and then its a matter of who is still playing the longest.

In my opinion, Te Rakau is a really fun subject, though it is really confusing at times.
The most difficult part of Te Rakau for me is the timing, it isn't really hard but I don't have anything else to write about.
My favorite part of Te Rakau was probably just getting the beats on time- because it felt so satisfying to just get it right.

Anyways I'm sorry this blog post was pretty bad- there wasn't much to write about.

See you next time!

Donuts 'n Cake!

Hello bloggers :3
This week I made chocolate cake and donuts with my mother!
To be honest I didn't really want to make donuts seeing and last time we made them they had a really hard texture and absolutely no taste whatsoever- but I probably spoke too soon since the batch we made this week turned out really nice. ( I would have linked the recipe here except I wrote it on paper and am too lazy to copy it down.)
As for the cake, it had a nice texture though a little bit too dry along with a taste, I expect most taste would come from the icing or whatever it's called though probably depends on the cake itself.
to be honest, the whole baking thing wasn't bad- mainly because I was able to eat chunks of butter but also so I could shove various other ingredients in my mouth- so I guess it's not a fail.
Tell me your favorite recipes in the comments! :D))

Yanny Or Laurel

Hola Bloggers! I didn't really know what to post about so I just dug up some old work and continued it ( this was from term 1 ) so I apologize for the mess which I call my blog post.

Yanny or laurel is trick audio, I say this because you can only hear one of the two names in the audio-the name you hear depends on your hearing, though for me I hear both of the names though the longer I hear it the more I hear Laurel than Yanny.

The reason for this is that some people can year a higher frequency than others leading them to hear Yanny other than Laurel, this usually depends on the music you listen to (or the volume you listen to it at), for example, if you listen to loud music than your most likely going to hear laurel and if you listen to much softer music than you'll hear Yanny.

Tell me what you hear in the comments :)

Marvelous Microplastics (not really )

Kia Ora bloggers :) and today I'm presenting you my canva project, the task was to create an informative poster about how Microplastics affect marine life ( though I and Valley chose to do a presentation ).

A quick reminder to those who don't know what microplastics are, they're pieces of plastic that have degraded over time to bits of plastic that are near 5mm big.
These pieces of plastic affect both us and the sea life because the fish normally mistake the plastic for their food and decide to eat it, which is not good for their digestive systems. Then we come along and fish the fish (yes) and end up eating it.

overall this whole project was quite painful because finding any useful information proved impossible due to the lack of helpful sites, not a very good outcome for me.

Steam Project: Making A Table :D

Howdy bloggers, today our task was to make a table out of 10 sheets of newspaper and 1 meter of tape.

The rules were simple, the table had to be over 15 cm and hold at least one book while getting 25 minutes to build our table.

I was grouped with Zoe, Camryn, Catherine, and Talia, we all got 5 minutes to do our planning/ discussion and 25 minutes to build our table, the plan was to make the top part of the table the sturdiest ( which we completed by adding many poles under the top of the table.) We then finished by adding the legs to the top and stuck them together.

We then checked the table by weighing my phone and scissors on it, it didn't fall so we guessed that it would hold at least one book. After our timer had finished we then got to the part where Mrs. Osborne stacked a pile of books on our table to see how much weight it could balance and we only got one book on because when she put the second book on it collapsed.

So overall the table WAS successful.

Matariki Art

howdy bloggers

for the last 3 weeks, we've been making Matariki prints to celebrate the upcoming event.

I started off my Matariki prints by making a draft picture for which I would then print onto my foam block, this took some time because we had to flip the stars so it would print the right way when I put it on my paper.
The next part of my Matariki art was putting it on foam, I used blunt pencils to outline my foam and then later used a pen to outline my lines (again). After the anxiety-filling process of outlining the foam, I finally got to dye my piece of foam and print it.
For my piece of foam, I chose to make the background the color blue and the mountains green instead of merging to colors together, though I made the mistake of coloring the river green instead of blue.
I only chose to do one print I seemed to have let my foams dye dry a bit so it didn't come off fulls when I washed it off, that also affected my only piece of art, which looked drained of life.

Overall I did enjoy the Matariki art though the expectations of my art didn't match.

Explaining Measurement

Howdy Bloggers
Yesterday for maths we had to explain measurement (area, perimeter, and volume) which we all did on a slide.
Explaining the measurement wasn't the hard part but making the slides look gorgeous did ( by slide I mean just part of the slide aka, volume) I was previously doing the slide with Camryn and Catherine, though Mr. Shaw said we had to do it on our own, which resulted to Camryn and Catherine copying the slide and leaving me behind.

And that's the end folks

Egg Box

                                                                Kia Ora bloggers!
today we had our first steam lesson/project, we had to make a transportation box/safe which would carry the "medicine"   down to the injured person.

Our design was an origami box filled with a plastic bag and paper, we then taped the outside corners with cardboard and tape. our design was a bit scuffed and fragile but we were proud of it (not really).
After about 10 minutes after the timer was up, we got ready to drop our egg off, after another 15 minutes of listening to the other group's egg designs we finally got to go explain the reason for our design and gave it to Mrs. Osborne to drop.
in the process of dropping our egg (and me filming it), Mrs. Osborne started to yell at us, which I accidentally took a video of, after our teacher finished yelling at us we finally got to see our egg drop to its death.

overall our project was unsuccessful though the pictures I got to take of my group were in a way, hilarious.

Holocaust

This term for literacy I made a site about the concentration camps which can be found all over Germany and parts of Europe.

Making the site took a long time partly because finding the information on a holocaust topic was difficult and putting it in my own words and summarising the whole story while trying not to make it really long, were the things I struggled with most. I also had a pretty hard time coming up with questions because I needed to make one that made sense and not off-topic.

For feedback to myself, I think I need to add a bit more and focus a little harder on the subject, I think my site was reasonably successful and not too similar to other site's texts, therefore I am really happy with what I have done.

I have really enjoyed making the site though it was quite tough and confusing at points. However, i think it turned out well.

The Scratch Weather Forcast

                                                             The Scratch Weather Forcast
Today on scratch i finished off my weather animation which tells you how to pronounce weather names in Maori.

I personally found it a bit hard to make the animation since it was my first time on scratch, but i eventually got used to being able to animate the characters. while i was creating the animation i came across a few struggles which took some time to figure out.
I enjoyed creating the characters even though it was a bit hard to draw on my laptop but that was still one thing that i enjoyed.
On scratch i learnt how to animate characters, make them speak and move.
Overall i enjoyed making the animation, so comment what you think and improvements!
